Matched set!!!!!!

With the new web site I have decided to start adding some professor stories. The first story I have told many times before but I really enjoy it so here goes.

I was in Texas attending a camp and professor was teaching the finer points of two vs. one drill. Professor had called me up and was using me as uke. All of a sudden Professor goes into warp 9 speed, going faster than I have ever seen during this drill. I am scared for my life, I was doing everything possible just to keep from getting whacked.  So we continue training until the end of the evening.

The next morning at the hotel I went to breakfast and Professor was there eating already. Professor waves to me very excited come sit down he says. So I get my food and sit down next to him. I began to eat my breakfast and Professor shows me his hand, its very discolored from bad bruising and says “O”, I said Professor what the heck happen? Professor in his usual strong Filipino accent, Oh don’t know!!!!  Professor does this same routine 4 or five more times now I am a bit puzzled, and worried. Professor says, “What is Dis!! Would you help Mee teach the secret Block today.

I was ecstatic, my God the Grand Master asked me to help wow what an Honor.  On top of it I’m getting a secret holy CRAP!!!!!

So the morning session begins professor has everyone close sitting down. He is looking around the room and says he needs help with this new “Secret block” I am crushed, thinking oh man he asked me why is he looking around. Finally being the showman he was he calls me up. This time is different though, He has one stick and I have two. I am a bit puzzled this is the first time I have had two sticks with professor. So he says ok so we start the drill two vs. one. He tells me to”Foke” , so I poke with the right stick and holy snikies !!!!! he lets it rip strikes my hand , he then holds his hand up and says HOLY COW !!!!LOOK NOW WE HAVE A MATCH SET!!!

I am sure it would have been easy for professor to just tell me I struck him but it wouldn’t have had any impact in comparison to how he handled it. I always remember this it always reminded me of what a unique and insightful person Professor was. I hope you enjoy the story its just one of the very many, many stories I have from all the wonderful time I spent with the Grand Master Remy Presas.

December Newsletter

Well December is upon us faster than I could have ever imagined!!!. October and November were very crazy months. They were very productive, but hectic all the same. It was a great journey, It was an honor to meet so many great people along the way.
I was very fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to teach with martial arts greats Grandmaster Frank Trejo, Grandmaster George Dillman, Grandmaster Steve Stewart and Grandmaster Ken Smith.

Lots of seminars, lots of miles, but more importantly I got to meet a lot of new people.
I’m also very excited about the implementation of our Kickboxing Program, I have very very high hopes for this program.

I just got back from Bloomington, Indiana. I had a great seminar there and met a bunch of new folks. It was very exciting. The year is winding down…we still have two more workshops: Saturday Dec 8th at the new “Fighting Fit” in Wyandotte at noon, and the following week on Saturday Dec 15th from 10:00 am to 1:00pm at my dojo.

This years Christmas Party is going to be at Antonio’s in Canton on Dec 15th. If you want to attend, you have to contact me because it is arranged seating.

As this year winds down, I have been reflecting on the last 12 months, the ups and downs, and all between. I am looking forward to 2013. I am already scheduling events. It looks like its going to be even busier than this year .

I am hoping that all of you can be motivated and inspired to get in shape and train hard in the up coming year. There are going to be a lot of challenges along the way, but I believe in you, I know that you can persevere.

Please keep focused and bring people into the Modern Arnis family so they can experience this wonderful journey!!!

Have a safe and happy holiday , please check the website and calendar for classes and events.

As always BE INSPIRED.
Master Chuck

September Newsletter

Hello everyone, I hope that all your summer time activities were great. It is always a mixed feeling when summer starts winding down. September is upon us, vacations are slowing down the children are going back to school . But with the end of summer comes the fall season it is one of the great seasons here in Michigan. I’m very excited I have been able to dedicate time for training. I’m looking forward to everyone coming back into the dojo and really start focusing on Arnis and personal improvement. With summer over there are less distractions and more ability to apply ourselves towards improvement on the Path of the Martial Way.

Professor spoke to me about striving for improvement, It’s very important not to get lax or sit on our laurels. To become the best person and martial artist we can be, we have to work everyday at improving. Many of you have heard me talk about how it is easy to be third or fifth or last. It takes hard work to be the best.

I really want to impress upon everyone that striving to be Number 1 is important , but its not just with the stick, a punch or a kick. I’m referring to you, yourself and how you effect everyone around you. Can you look in the mirror and honestly say you are applying yourself as a husband/wife, a significant other, a father /mother, or a friend? Or do you blame others for shortcomings or negative outcomes? Now is a great time to begin improvement at your job, your relationships with friends and family, and to yourself. Yes I said yourself. Are you working out? Are you satisfied with where you are or do you want more? Are you happy in your relationships? Are you happy with your progress at work and in the martial arts? There are so many things that can impact our ability to be the great person we all can be. Let’s try and put the distractions and the EXCUSES aside and start working hard this month.

I’m very excited we have added kick boxing to the schedule Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. If you have time you should come in and try the class out. It’s a lot of hard work but very rewarding. Sept. 22nd is the Work shop , the topic is TAPI-TAPI. I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to sharing some intricate details at this workshop.

Also in October is ArnisFest. I would like to request that anyone and everyone that is capable in going do so. This is going to be a great camp.

In closing, I’m looking forward to everyone coming to the dojo and training, Please be inspired , train hard and most importantly, enjoy your time and inspire others.

SEE YOU ON THE MAT!!!!!!!
